Romanian Cryptology Days, RCD-2011
October 11-12, 2011
Athenee Palace-Hilton Hotel, Bucharest

The Romanian Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE), as the cryptology authority, intends to contribute substantially to developing the expertise of Romanian specialists in the field of classified information protection, methods and means to secure communication channels, and also the prevention of cyber-attacks on IT networks.

The internal structures of the SIE provide the analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation of cryptographic primitives. LECC-SIE, the "Evaluation and Cryptographic Certification Laboratory", accredited by National Registry Office for Classified Information, tests and evaluates nationally available cryptographic products, in order to protect classified information.

Due to its vast expertise in the cryptology field the SIE is involved both in promoting a cryptology culture in Romania, complying with the legislative framework on the protection of classified information and diplomatic communications, and in drafting a national strategy in the field of IT security.

An important direction in the SIE’s strategy 2008 – 2012 is the design, elaboration and evaluation of national cryptographic algorithms, as well as their implementation in hardware cryptographic devices. Therefore, the SIE wants to establish partnerships with the national and international academic communities, with the goal of ensuring a solid training in the cryptology field for its specialists.

The theme of the Conference’s 1st edition is "Cryptology – from Academic Research to Government Necessity". The conference’s goal is to bring together the main representatives of the national and international government institutions tasked with information security, as well as of the academic community at home and worldwide.
